I specialize in object performance and puppetry, in both live theater and video. My historical projects focus on ancient imagined worlds, and I work as a collaborative project editor with a variety of artists and architects.

I am trained as a professional historian and received my PhD from Duke University in 2005; I am also trained as a performer and puppeteer, and have worked with artists and companies in New York, Detroit, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.

A note about my name: I’m a trans man, and before I transitioned, I published a lot of work as Catherine M. Chin. I now publish my academic work under the name Catherine Michael Chin. In art contexts and in my everyday life, I go by Mike Chin (and use he/him pronouns).
